Technical Rescue Team

The Division 17 Technical Rescue Team is comprised of 35 members of Division Departments that volunteer their time to specialize in advanced level rescues. Members are required to obtain Technician level certification in Rope/Vertical, Confined Space, Trench and Structural Collapse types of rescue (over 500 hours/9 weeks of training for each member) along with Haz-Mat and Vehicle/Machinery Rescue.
The team is part of a MABAS/ITTF program that supplies each team with over $250,000 of specialized equipment and much more in class tuition and personnel backfill. The team's are then required to respond anywhere MABAS is requested for up to 3 days of continuous self sustained operations. Their main response area is Stephenson, Carroll & JoDaviess Counties in IL and Green County in WI.
The team has participated in multiple exercises, State TRT Validation (2007, 2011) and have conducted classes at the SWNIFRA Monroe Fire School.




Hazardous Material Team

The Division 17 Hazardous Materials team is part of the MABAS/ITTF program that provides training and equipment to selected teams in the state. The team is made up of personnel from Freeport Fire Department.
The team has participated in area drills and State Haz-Mat Validation (2009).
